Interventional Radiology

Interventional radiology (IR) is a medical specialty that involves the use of minimally invasive, image-guided techniques to diagnose and treat several vascular and non vascular conditions.

Interventional radiology allows doctors to look inside your body with imaging tests such as CT scans, MRIs, or ultrasounds. Interventional Procedures are performed under imaging guidance by inserting small tools such as needles or tubes into your body through tiny cuts, which can be as small as a pinhole.

Benefits of Interventional Radiology :

There are many advantages and benefits of IR. Radiologists employing this technique can get direct access to the part of the body that needs treatment. This can be achieved by placing central lines deep into the body to deliver medication and effectively treat problems such as bleeding vessels, blood clots, cancer, and narrowed arteries.

What To Expect During Interventional Radiology Procedures :

Each patient’s experience is unique, as it depends on the specific condition being treated. There is a chance you might be sedated during treatment, which means you will be given medications that can help you to relax and ease pain. General anaesthesia or medication that puts you to sleep is rarely used during IR procedures; however, this varies from case to case.

During the procedure, your radiologist will use MRI, CT scan, or ultrasound imaging to take a look at the part of the body that requires treatment. This is followed by inserting a tool such as a catheter, needle, or wire into your body through a tiny incision, and skilfully navigating the tool through your body to the area that needs treatment.

After the procedure, you will be taken to a recovery room and monitored closely by our team. You can rest assured that you are in good hands. Our team of radiologists, nurses, and technologists is highly trained to provide you with quality and compassionate care throughout every step of your treatment.
