Endoscopic Ultrasound
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), also known as echo-endoscopy, is a medical procedure that combines endoscopy with ultrasound. During EUS, a thin, flexible tube called an echoendoscope is inserted into the digestive tract to create images of internal organs in the chest, abdomen, and colon. It allows visualization of the walls of these organs and adjacent structures. EUS helps in taking biopsies from mediastinal or intra-abdominal lesions. It also facilitates large pseudocyst/walled off necrosis drainage in pancreas and biliary drainage procedures in altered anatomy cases. It also facilitates the minimally invasive procedures for palliation of advanced GI cancers, like celiac plexus block, endoscopic Gastrojejunostomy etc.
