Amara Hospital successfully treats patient with ECMO support​

AMARA Hospitals in Tirupati has successfully treated a 30-year patient, Pujitha of Chittoor, who was admitted with severe respiratory problem and chronic diabetes. As the patient’s oxygen levels have not improved beyond 60 per cent despite external support, she was put on ventilator support. Despite that her oxygen levels fluctuated between 72 and 80 per cent only. With the consent of the patient’s family members, doctors have put her on ECMO (Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation) support with which the condition has improved gradually. As she was having a severe infection in her lungs, doctors provided treatment for 26 days with which she recovered completely and was discharged on Monday. On this occasion, hospital MD Dr Ramadevi Gourineni, pulmonologist Dr P Siva Kumar Reddy addressed the media and disclosed the details. Critical care HoD Dr Sankar, Dr Nagaraju and others were also present.
