Ultrasound

What is it?

Ultrasound imaging or sonography involves exposing part of the body to be examined to high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of internal organs of the body. Since no radiation is used, it is a safe test. Doppler ultrasound can evaluate blood flow through arteries and veins in the abdomen, arms, legs and neck.

What can it detect?

Ultrasound can be used to examine internal organs, diagnose a variety of conditions, assess organ damage and detect blood clots/ blockage of blood flow.  It is also used to guide procedures like needle biopsies of suspected lesions for diagnosis.

I am having an ultrasound.
