About the Role:
A Transplant Coordinator plays a critical role in coordinating all activities related to organ and tissue transplantation within the hospital. The role involves supporting patients and families through the evaluation, transplant, and post-transplant process, ensuring compliance with medical, legal, and ethical guidelines. The coordinator works closely with consultants, surgeons, nursing teams, organ donation organizations, and regulatory bodies to facilitate smooth and timely transplant services.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
- Preferably certified in Transplant Coordination from a recognized authority.
- Strong knowledge of organ donation processes, transplant regulations, and documentation.
- Excellent communication and counselling skills for interacting with patients and families.
- Ability to coordinate with multiple teams (clinical & non-clinical) effectively.
- Good understanding of hospital operations and medical terminology.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate assessments for potential transplant recipients.
- Assist in scheduling diagnostic tests, evaluations, and follow-ups.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure timely documentation.
- Coordinate organ donation processes as per legal and ethical guidelines.
- Work with NOTTO/SOTTO/ZOTTO and Jeevandan for donor allocation.
- Support donor families with counselling and provide necessary information.
- Coordinate all activities from organ retrieval to transplantation.
- Ensure timely communication between surgeons, nephrologists, ICU teams, and OT staff.
- Ensure compliance with the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA).
- Maintain all records required for audits and statutory submissions.
- Participate in inspections and regulatory reviews.
- Provide emotional support, education, and clarity to families throughout the transplant journey.
- Update families regarding transplant procedures, risks, and follow-up care requirements.
- Track post-transplant follow-up appointments and recovery progress.
- Coordinate with clinicians for ongoing patient management.
- Participate in hospital organ donation awareness programs.
- Assist in training internal staff on transplant processes and guidelines.
